Pool Table Room Size Calculator

For a standard 8-foot pool table with a 58″ cue, the minimum room size is 14’4″ × 18’0″ — enough to shoot every angle without hitting a wall. Enter your exact table size and cue length below to get your room’s precise dimensions.

Calculate Your Room Size

Pick a standard table size (or enter a custom one), choose your cue length and comfort level, and we’ll do the math.

You need a room at least:

19’0″ × 15’4″

Based on an 8 ft table (88″ × 44″ playing surface), a 58″ cue, and 12″ of swing room on each side — our recommended comfort level.

Minimum, recommended, and spacious room dimensions for every standard table size, using a 58″ regulation cue.

Formula and playing-surface dimensions cross-checked against Brunswick Billiards’ room-size guide and the Rec.Sport.Billiards (Dr. Dave Pool Info) minimum-space guidance: room dimension = table dimension + 2 × (cue length + swing allowance).

How to Calculate Pool Table Room Size Yourself

The same math the calculator above runs — useful if you’re comparing tables on a tape measure in an actual room.

  1. Measure your table’s playing surface, not the outer cabinet — length and width, corner pocket to corner pocket.
  2. Pick your cue length. Regulation cues are 58″; most players use 57–58″.
  3. Add swing room on every side. You need space behind the rail for a full backstroke — 6″ minimum, 12″ for comfortable play, 18″+ if you want room to walk around while others shoot.
  4. Apply the formula to both dimensions: Room length = table length + 2 × (cue length + swing room). Room width = table width + 2 × (cue length + swing room).
  5. Check for obstructions — doors that swing inward, low ceiling light fixtures, and stairwells can all eat into your usable space even if the floor plan technically fits.
